Water resources across the world are under tremendous pressure due to continuously rising demands for the fresh water. The contamination of existing water resources limits the efficient utilization of water across the world. In addition to anthropogenic pollution, the seemingly pristine sources of water such as ground-water also suffer from naturally occurring contamination across the world. Inorganic elements, micro-organisms and the organic matter interact with each other and these interactions determine the quality of water. My research aims to understand the biogeochemical interactions influencing the water quality in the natural or engineered systems using a combination of laboratory, field and modeling techniques.
